![]() I used a phillips insert on the jeep tool kit because it was nice and small and fit in there well. The dash speakers were a 30 minute install, it's just a pain to pull back the plastic and a little tight to get in there. For my jeep I am buying all factory plugs and extensions so I never modify the stock wiring. It was a super easy install, I have never done a head unit before but I have crimped a wire when building my PC so it made sense.įor the speakers, I elected for ones with factory plugs so it was literally drop in and plug. I did buy mine from crutchfield and only called because I couldn't get the u-connect adapter to load up correctly, you just need to choose the BASE model stereo and not any of the extra part numbers and it works great. ![]() You crimp the harness to the stereo (I did this exact install in my 2017 a couple months ago) and you just plug into the factory harness.įor my install the reverse wire was part of the harness so it's hooked into the stereo.Īntenna adapter was for the factory style plug to convert to the easy plug in on the stereo, I don't specifically remember. Quick note that the wiring harness was worth it for me. If anyone knows of a writeup on those, or replacing the OEM speakers in general that would be great as well! What I've read is the ones under the dash are a major pain to replace. Oh PS - Sometime after I replace the head unit, I plan to replace the speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks I plan to keep my jeep for years, but if I should ever decide to part with it, depending on the difficulty of the install I might swap back in the OEM unit, so just something to factor in. I have manual transmission, not sure if that mattersĪgain the main thing that concerns me is wiring up the head unit (should I get that harness or is it needed), and certain aspects of the backup camera. I understand the parking break wire and am going to run a bypass for that, but the reverse wire I'm a bit clueless on, far as where to find it, how to identify it, etc. ![]() Regarding the backup camera install - I found a writeup / video from Crutchfield and for the most part this makes sense, but around 12:15 in, it mentions I'll need to hook up a parking break wire & reverse wire. This is my major concern with the install, so any advice here would be great!
